Aroma: Cooked agave, bitter oak and a bit of smoke.Initial Taste: It’s an añejo, but it has a crisp kind of start. Just a light sweetness with a hint of dark chocolate & coffee. Sweet & bitter married together.Body: A medium body, but has a continued nice combo of opposite taste. A nice clove type spice is married in with the oak and chocolate.Finish: A medium length finish that has a hint of vanilla sweetness, but it is mostly dominated by dark chocolate and wood flavors. A very nice and unique finish.

Let me say that Calle 23 as a company has my highest regard. They do things the right way and when they have real quality material to work with they excel. That is why I was disappointed when I found their Anejo to be a bit short of the mark. The distillation lacks the body I expected to see in this product. Its just a few bricks light of a full load. It is smooth and very drinkable with a very reasonable palette, but it falls short of its own potential. I have a long list of other Anejo’s I prefer and sadly this is not one of them. I will wait for their next single barrel release and pay more to be impressed. Love the company, but this one needs the improvement it deserves.
